SECO – Swiss economy gains momentum – but slowly
Bern, 17.12.2015 – Economic forecasts by the Federal Government’s Expert Group – Winter 2015/2016* – Swiss GDP stagnated between January and September 2015. The marked slowdown in growth is mainly attributable to the appreciation of the Swiss franc from mid-January. The weaker expansion of global trade and the slowing dynamic of the domestic economy also had a dampening effect. Given that the international economy should improve gradually, the Expert Group anticipates an acceleration in economic growth in Switzerland from 0.8% in 2015 to 1.5% in 2016 and 1.9% in 2017. In view of this rather slow economic upturn, the unemployment rate should rise from 3.3% in 2015 to an annual average of 3.6% in 2016 and start falling again to 3.4% in 2017.
